I've been rejected by women all my life. I'm now 75. Rejection saps confidence, induces resentment, jealousy, bitterness, low self esteem - and loneliness. It affects every aspect of one's life including working life - as it did in my case. Is it any wonder I feel worthless. For me it's been the worst thing in my life - and I've had cancer!

I have experienced sexual abuse by a friend of my sibling when I was 7 and forgot about this (didn’t tell any family member nor felt that smth wasn’t right, it was our “secret”). At the age of 22 I have uncovered these memories and it took me 1 year of immense healing work, then 2 more years to become strong enough to speak about my experience. I reached out to this sibling to let them know that I don’t blame them but I need support and acknowledgement . And instead I faced ignorance and anger…What happens now is weird - the sibling accuses me of “talking sh*t” and “making nasty things up”. It is bizarre to feel that this sibling who is in some sense responsible for bringing the abuser to our house denies this responsibility. And I again caught myself on this feeling that “I am the fault and I am responsible for their anger at me”. I have already cut this connection with the sibling but it’s still feels weird to see that in their reality I am a lier and a crazy younger sister. I hope that if any of you plans to discuss the long past abuse with the family members you will be heard and comforted, not accused.

Colin's nod to her at the wedding is so precious. It's the mark of true, lasting love imo. He's still pissed and he'll go back to being pissed, but there's such a solid baseline of love and friendship, that they're able to go back to that for a little while and just live in the moment. That little nod says it all. Plus, the words that would have played in the song at that moment are "you know I love you so" 😭

colin definitely did the kiss thing out of compassion, doing a favor for a dear friend. I found it interesting that the kiss had diametric effects on them - for Pen it was basically saying goodbye to love and finally ending the “pining for colin” chapter and for colin it opened his eyes to loving her romantically.

Most of Penelope's shunning and "unnattractiveness" was due to her mother's tackiness and penchant for dressing her like a pinata, not her figure.

I know that season 3 left much to be desired but for sure the previous seasons definitely set up for Colin to be unsure of his purpose in life & add to it what happened with Marina, it is an insecurity 🎁! Which is why I believe his behavior & some of his words in part 2 is understandable (though obviously not cool). I mean imagine you feel crap about yourself and in your mind, the person you love echoed those feelings behind your back. Or thought you were so dense that you needed to humiliated publicly to finally get it. I think we all knew Pen was insecure but as the seasons went on, so was Colin & its so beautiful to see a couple heal each other from that!

We knew that closer personality in the first season with how he treated his sister in the first season. It was all about "I'm your big brother and it's my obligation to find you a suitable match that I 100% approve of, and you will marry who I chose for you because I know best"

I felt a huge gut punch when Penelope overheard Colin's comment about her to his friends. I have *been* Penelope. Many times, and watching their relationship blossom over the 3 seasons was so validating (minus my not finding someone...yet, I guess?). Seeing her confidence and finding herself, then especially standing up to Colin when he is a big sulky baby after she tells him she is going to take care of her own issues was really empowering throughout the whole season even with the roller coaster of their relationship (which tbh I wish had been explored more because everything felt so abrupt and shortened because they crammed another relationship in there). I have to say though, I somewhat disagree with how you mentioned that Colin was finally realizing that she saw him as more than a friend when she made the comment about his eyes. In season 2, he had gone to see his ex-fiancée Marina (from season 1) who was married to someone else now - and she told him flat out to appreciate the love he already has around him. From his family. From Penelope specifically (who Marina knew was in love with Colin). And I think it was when they danced together at the ball, he made a comment about not having seen or appreciating her before. I think he did kiss her not out of pity but because he knew she believed that this was going to never happen for her and he wanted to make sure that she did kiss someone who cared about her instead of someone who would be taking advantage of her. And I think her breathing heavily came more from nerves/anxiety than anything else because it took SO MUCH for her to be vulnerable especially with Colin because of her feelings. And when she runs away after the kiss and he is standing there stunned I joked with a friend that the little lightbulb was starting to flicker on in his head because he is starting to realize that...yeah, he actually has feelings for Penelope but he still has no idea how she feels (especially since he agreed to help her try to find a husband). As far as he knows, she asked him for that kiss because she was comfortable with him - especially with her comments about how she would never expect anything of it, would never ask him for more, etc. I mean, later in the season (IYKYK) when he finally decides to tell her how he feels, her immediate response is to not believe him and say "But Colin, we're friends." and you can see that he thinks he blew it because he still at that moment doesn't know she is also in love with him. And at their engagement party when she's trying to tell him she's Whistledown (and has a panic attack), he tries to calm her down and says that he understands if she no longer feels about him and that she had just gotten caught up in the moment in the carriage. Just my 2 cents, having watched the whole relationship unfold over 3 seasons and relating to Pen not just from the feeling invisible viewpoint but also what she deals with at home.

Colin needed that moment of doubt for the viewers because all he has been doing is ignoring penelope & making comments like THAT at her "Mama's ball" and by god are we frustrated with him as viewers . BECAUSE BOY IS JUST NOT GETTING THE MEMO. We needed Penelope to assert herself and become more assertive because that's what many of us need to do in life because we identify with Penelope as she is the underdog & many of us have felt like this.

@@ehowiehowie7850my mom was much like Penelope’s mom as well hence my “home life” comment. I was fat shamed, I was made to think I was worthless, unworthy of love etc. all things Pens mom does to her (like when she hears Pen and Colin are engaged and acts like Pen entrapped him or that it’s not a real engagement).

Gosh the unrequited love- i confessed my love to my high school crush only in the context of needing to get it off my chest since I was trying to get over him. Spoiler -we are still friends to this day, but I was right that he didn’t feel that way about me. Love has many different facets and I think it small imagination to condemn a love to only one form for all time

Colin definitely doesn't know Pen has feelings for him. Not even after she asked for that kiss. He takes her at her word that she doesn't expect more (and reads it as she doesn't *want* more) because, like Pen, Colin is very insecure about his own worth and desirability.

I didn't see it as a pitty kiss. They both have feelings for each other. Colin may not understand it, or feel it as romantic, but she is his best friend and she makes him happy...She asked him for one thing...and I think he was just chomping at the bit to do something, anything to show her his gratitude for the years of kindness and friendship. especially since the rumor got out and they would most likely not be allowed to see each other anymore. As you said, it was a hail mary, a goodbye. She wanted a kiss and she trusted Colin, and Colin trusted her enough to know she wouldn't try and trap him in marriage because he kissed her.

Colin has zero personality this season. Zero. They basically took his character growth and turned it back. He says the most generic lines ever (and he is supposed to be a WRITER), he spends his time in brothels, he never apologised for all that he said about Pen, he does not support her ideas or her bravery (as a long time friend should, not to mention partner), he sulks, he has her befoew the wedding though HE respected Marina in the S1 enough to say wait, i respect and love you too much, lets wait till the wedding. He mopes the WHOLE wedding (was his nod during the wedding scene supposed to be cute? Really? A nod?). He asks her about all the things he wrote about him never thinking more than 2 seconds to try and understand why she did what she did, how put of control she felt in her home, what she wrote about herself! The only thing she wrote about him was that he is a rake - omg bo hoo, baby boy. Seeeelfiiiish. Immature. Kid. He is way cooler in the books - he s smart, perceptive, he loves Pen for how talanted she is, he asks her advice and says to the whole world that he is proud of her. While here he basically is missing for 2 last episodes until the queen says that Pen is ok! They barely talk about anything, where their common interests, values? How can we speak of love? Its lust at best. Urgh, i can go on and on. This is NOT a good partner ladies. Do not let the abs fool you. Pen is saying over and over that she loves him, apologies for every single mishap - like wtf? And he looks half bored half like ok I ll let you love me darling. This is not a healthy relationship. And the s..x scene, my god that was awful. Pls do not EVER do that to a woman - he barely kisses her, barely any prelude there, before he has her, that wud hurt like hell. It’s disrespectful to both characters and awfully written. Most disappointing season.

He doesn't wait until the wedding because let's be honest - he is a Bridgerton man and we saw what Anthony did as well lol (I personally love Anthony's reaction hearing about the sudden engagement and Benedict poking fun at him). He wasn't moping during the wedding. Don't forget the night before he got drunker than a skunk and Kate and Anthony sat him down and pointed out that whatever was going on between him and Pen was something that didn't change the fact that he loved her. His nod to Pen was to let her know - yeah, we're okay (until the Queen shows up and when he asks if Pen will give up Whistledown she tells him she still isn't sure and then he's dumb and doesn't listen to her). Which was why you see her *visibly relax* as soon as he does. She didn't call him a rake, she said he seemed to have a personality change and that maybe he no longer really knew himself - which was also part of their fight the night before the wedding when she told him why she wrote it (which led to their angry kiss). A lot of their story was cut out because the new show runner in my opinion was pretty intent on shoving Francesca in there and rushing her story and not giving her a real season like she deserves. So yes, it feels rushed and there is a great amount if context that is left out or is implied.

I love that when they talk outside of the modiste he is actively listening- he asks her questions, he doesn't yell at her, he stays calm, he doesn't run away, and she genuinely answers them - it's clear it's more about his jealousy and his fear for her safety then her actually being whistledown. When he said that she entrapped him he clearly said that out of pain and anger because she didn't entrap him- he is the one who initiated sex, she repeatedly gives him an out and he doesn't take it because he knows deep down that she didn't do that he is just deeply hurt that she kept that a secret and he loves her and wants to marry her. it's obvious how much he wants to be physically intimate with her but is holding back because he is still processing all of this new information which I love- when he opens the door and she is standing there and you see him almost go in and kiss her but he restrains himself even though he wants to because he is not ready. He deeply loves her and for him to have sex with her when they are not in a good place isn't fair to her or him- so by not having sex he is respecting both of them. The first show runner also said that Colin is supposed to be demisexual so him not wanting to have sex when the are not in a good space makes sense- he feels disconnected to her and having sex with her because he is still processing so much new information and feels emotionally separated from her at the moment makes complete sense. It has been ingrained in him that it is a mans job to provide for and protect his wife, so when she says she can take care of herself and he says then what good am I to you, you can feel the pain, pen is independent and doesn't need him in that way, she just needs him for him and it takes some time for him to accept the role reversal

I find it ironic that during the Regency era, the period from 1811 to 1820, that Bridgerton is set in, Penelope's figure WAS the beauty ideal, not the more tiny figures. 'Plump' was used as a compliment more then than now.

This, I have always heard how being curvy was a beauty standard, so by that standard she should be the most desirable one.

@@reginaphalange8500 Yes! And of all the things I wish Bridgerton was historically accurate on, it would be appreciation for more diverse body types! I also don't like all the coded language in the script that pretends like Pen is insecure because of her 'personality' or 'shyness', all the viewers know what the show is actually saying, that her body is the reason, but the writers carefully never directly say that, or else they would be rightly critiqued.

I could be wrong, but I always thought that Penelope was the black sheep in her family because of her love of books and social awkwardness. I don’t really remember Portia saying that Pen was “too fat” to be courted. I also think that since Pen is the beauty standard, Portia might be meaner to her since she would feel that Penelope would draw attention away from her sisters.

@@vickyvale711 I feel like the show does imply that 'not being considered pretty' is the main reason for her lack of popularity with the styling of the character, the actress who plays Pen said to Vogue that they purposely dressed her unflatteringly in the first seasons so she could have a 'glow up' in this season to get Colin's attention. And the show does not film in a way that gazes at her body as longingly as other female leads. The show knows what it implies.

I love that their relationship shows about insecurities and learning to love yourself, to value yourself. I was surprised at how much Colin is actually quite insecure as well, not believing himself worth of love for being himself. Penelope finding herself was beautiful to see.

I completely agree. And from pen's pov she 100% thought he would never ever see her as anything but a friend. Marina told her she is basically Eloise to him, a lifetime of him not seeing her as a woman at all but just "pen", the ton/family's opinion that basically no one would ever see her like that, and colin's literal words last season that the idea alone is laughable. She didn't ask him to kiss her cause she was trying to start something. She was ending something. She was closing the book on her fantasy of being loved in general. She was at the "mom/the ton is right and I will die alone, lets just accept that reality and not torm*nt myself any longer" stage. But she wanted to at least know what it feels like and colin was the guy she felt most safe/confident around to actually ask. She was basically going "thank you, now I can cross it off of my bucket list". Clinical and thats why she had no emotional shift afterwards. Cause she thought it had no mean whatsoever. But he sure did cause colin is demis*xual. He needs an emotional connection. Which is why he felt a distance with the ladies in paris. Colin is first and foremost a Feeler, good for him. 👍😃 So to experience pen with whom he already had a bond, turned his world upside down.

@@maaiker2977 I think you also see that Colin's emotions rule him in other kinds of scenes too. When John and Francesca announce to the Bridgerton family that they plan to marry, Colin is the first one out of his seat to approach and congratulate them. Colin loves love and it's one of his character's sweetest qualities, imo.

@@maaiker2977 I couldn't have said better about the first kiss. For Penelope, it's a goodbye kiss that she had thought it meant nothing to him since he was with so many women described as the most beautiful and Penelope never thought she could be any bit appealing to anyone let alone to Colin. But for Colin that kiss had connected some dots in his brain which made him realise he did have feelings for her.

  • @voyance4elle

I'm actually not sure he knows. I never saw it that way. When she gave him this huge compliment while they were pretending to be at a ball, and he looked at her stunned and in shock, I thought that her words were just giving him feelings. Which he already began to have when he cut his hand and she took care of the wound and touched his hand (which was super uncommon back then)... What do you think? Also when she asked him to kiss her I still read it as something a friend would do for you and not necessarily her revealing her feelings. A lot of teenagers explore stuff together as friends (at least in my experience). I would love to hear your thoughts on that :) Also, do you think you will want to make more videos about Bridgerton? Maybe about Cressida or about Eloise's and Penelope's friendship or about Lady Fetherington's and Penelope's mother-daughter relationship? I would be very excited about that :D
